Abstract
Objectives: Community capacity is defined as ability of community to solve voluntarily its health problems by utilizing human capital, organizational resources, and social capital. The aim of this paper was to verify the effects of community capacity over health status of community residents and to review its implication on community health promotion activities.

Methodes: Dataset was collected through conducting the survey of "Community Capacity Assessment and Development toward Health Promotion and Healthy City: a case study of Dobong-gu in 2006"(N=1,019). Ordered logistic regression was applied for data analysis. Independent variables were World Bank¡¯s SC-IQ scales (sense of community, social trust, regional trust and so on) and dependent variables were individual health status grouped by healthy, normal, and unhealthy.

Results: In Model ¥°, men¡¯s health status was worse than women(OR: 1.395; 95% CI: 1.086-1.793), and the younger (£¼30 ages) were better than elderly group (£¾50 ages) (OR: 0.515; 95% CI: 0.363-0.731). In Model ¥±, the regular exercise group¡¯s health was better than non-exercise group (OR: 0.539; 95% CI: 0.401-0.726). However, smoking and BMI index were not significant. In Model ¥², the sex effects disappeared, and the age effects still existed. As the sense of community (OR: 0.946; 95% CI: 0.919-0.975), social trust (OR: 0.623; 95% CI: 0.418-0.928) and community trust (OR: 0.863; 95% CI: 0.753-0.989) decreased, the health status of residents lowered significantly.

Conclusions: This research studied the effects of community capacity over its health status. Neighborhood sensitivity is formulated through making human networks, activating voluntary associations, and organizing these public resources. When social supports increased, residents would participate in community and its cohesion would be stronger. Their improved health status also would be expected.
